If
someone wants to reach the top you have to give up
everything. Such a man was Kees Kist. On a very early age he
knew he wanted to be a top football player.
A
typical example of was the Kist family from
Steenwijk. Cees (senior) was picked up by the club in 1967.
He wanted to play for the club on one condition: "My
brutha must come with me as well" was his remarkable
condition. "That's OK". But it was his brother,
Teun, who was the more successful of the two. Teun
played for the club from 1967 till 1987 with some
interruptions. After his playing days he went on to the
managing business. For some years he was trainer at V.V.
Willemsoord. Since this season he is the trainer of
Steenwijk 2.
And
then there was also the nephew Kees... He was the most
successful of the three. Kees' opinion was that Heerenveen
was not a top club. And it wasn't in those days. He would
find the top at AZ Alkmaar (then AZ 67) twice top scorer, a
title, two Dutch cups and the UEFA-cup final. In
his career he was capped 21 times for the national 11. Later
on he played for Paris Saint German with whom he won two
national league cups.
He
was European top scorer of the year 1979. His total tally
was 213 in the Dutch league. On the all time list he is on
the fourth spot after Willy van der Kuylen (312), Ruud Geels
(265) and Johan Cruijff (215).
For
some time he was the trainer with the amateur club FC
Wolvega. In 2001 he returned to his first love VV Steenwijk.
There he is responsible for the technical management of
junior and senior teams and he is coach of the first team.
