During
season 1991/1992, Leeroy Echteld joined SC Heerenveen from
Haarlem.
He became a firm's favourite immediately. You could hear his
name from the
stands all the time. The tall guy from Amsterdam was a
terrific target man
for his teammates. Leeroy Echteld skills were holding the
ball, scoring
regularly and great judgement. His best season was
1994/1995. In this season
he scored 11 goals and had lots of assists. Despite a good
contract from
Heerenveen and interest from PSV, he decided to join Cannes
in the summer of
1997. He regretted this decision. He told in Voetbal International
(Dutch soccermagazine): I should have stayed with
Heerenveen.
