Heerenveen
is a bustling town with a population of about 40,000 and is
the industrial and commercial centre for the surrounding
area. There is a theatre, concert hall and museum in the
town, which is famous for the Thialf ice rink. The European
and world speedskating championships have been held here and
the stadium is also home to the Heerenveen ice hockey side,
The Flyers.
For nature lovers there is the Oranjewoud forest on the
eastern edge of the town and Friesland's many interconnected
rivers, canals and lakes offer the chance of boating and
windsurfing for water sports enthusiasts.
Most of the best bars in Heerenveen are situated around the
Koemarkt, the old cattle market, and worth trying on De oude
Koemarkt are Bak, Brandpunt, Paul
Krüger, De Blauwe

there...
By
Car: Heerenveen is on the junction of the A7 and RW32 roads
an hour from Schiphol airport and Amsterdam. Heerenveen
has also an intercity railway station. The stadium is
proximally a 10-minute walk from the station.
